Commenting on NHS Scotland’s press release: Skin cancer survivor warns of sunbed danger (24/4/12) Gary Lipman, Chairman of The Sunbed Association, said:
“The Sunbed Association welcomes all initiatives to raise awareness about the importance of responsible tanning but they do need to be factual. It beggars belief that NHS Scotland and the Health Secretary, Nicola Sturgeon, could put their names to this release which is full of supposition and ignorance." .../more

TSA RESPONSE TO R UV UGLY CAMPAIGN:
Gary Lipman, Chairman of The Sunbed Association, said "We welcome any advice and education about the need to avoid excessive exposure to sunlight but this campaign is unworthy of an organisation like Cancer Research UK, whose work should be based on scientific and medical fact. We really must separate fact from propaganda. This campaign relies on interview based recollections not clinical data. Indeed research studies designed to prove a link between sunbed use and melanoma have found no link at all.”

- TSA understands that the safety of sunbeds has been questionned as a result of a study published today in ‘The Investigative Journal of Dermatology’. See 'News Stories' under 'News' for more TSA comment.
- New law for England and Wales from 8 April 2011. It is illegal to allow anyone under 18 years to use UV tanning equipment. All TSA members have received a guide to the law and posters for display.
- Further Sunbed Regulations came into force in Wales on 31 October 2011. All TSA members have received details.
- The proposed Sunbed Regulation for Northern Ireland will come into force on 1 May 2012. It will include a ban on under 18s and unsupervised outlets. All TSA members have received details.
- TSA's insurance brokers have provided Guidance for businesses following the recent riots in England. TSA members can obtain this by calling 0844 251 2559.
